THE SEX PISTOLSĀ  – THE GRAPHIC NOVEL

A PICTORIAL DOCUMENTARY OF THE RISE AND FALL OF THE SEX PISTOLS

The Sex Pistols – the Graphic Novel is an explosive graphic documentary about the rise and fall of The Sex Pistols.

The Sex Pistols were the English Punk Rock Band responsible for initiating and driving the punk movement and inspiring a generation of Punk and Alternative Rock musicians. In the process they rewrote rock ‘n’ roll and much else besides, and in this book the Pistols’ story returns to the rough and tumble of the comic strip from which it derived so much of its initial inspiration.

Many consider Punk the catalyst that culminated in the Grunge phenomena – inspiring seminal bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and the Stone Temple Pilots.

It is hard to believe when considering their pervading influence, but the Sex Pistols original career lasted just two-and-a-half years and produced only four singles and one studio album…Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols.

From the creator of Godspeed : The Kurt Cobain Biography and Neverland : The Michael Jackson Graphic comes the small format edition of an explosive graphic novel about the rise and fall of ‘The Sex Pistols’.

Despite their short reign, the Sex Pistols are regarded as one of the most influential acts in the history of popular music…and we agree!

In their first incarnation, the Sex Pistols included singer Johnny Rotten, lead guitar player Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook and bass player Glen Matlock. Matlock was replaced by Sid Vicious in early 1977. Under the management of genius Malcolm McLaren, a visual artist, performer, clothes designer, boutique owner and general nutter at large, the Sex Pistols provoked controversies that garnered a significant amount of publicity.

Their concerts repeatedly faced difficulties with organisers and local authorities and public appearances often ended in complete mayhem.

Their 1977 single God Save the Queen, attacking social conformity and deference to the Crown, precipitated the last and greatest outbreak of pop-based moral pandemonium .

England’s original punks explode from the pages with the same disrespect for authority that had the British establishment up in arms during the Queen’s 25th anniversary jubilee. And no one would have enjoyed this take on the Pistols more than the tale’s real casualty, Sid Vicious, who devoured comics almost as much as he did the destructive stuff.

Thanks to Steve Parkhouse’s wonderfully vivid illustrations and Jim McCarthy, the creator of Godspeed – The Kurt Cobain Graphic and Eminem – In My Skin, this graphical account of the Sex Pistols and the Punk Phenomena is a must have for any musician’s bookshelf or coffee table.
