Evolving from the hugely popular Micro CUBE—an amp that’s sold nearly 400,000 units World-wide—the CUBE Street packs true stereo sound, COSM amp modeling, a mic input, and much, much more into a super lightweight package. And, best of all, it runs on batteries, so you can take your music absolutely anywhere you want to go, from rehearsal to street corner. Want to know more? Okay, let’s check it out!
First Glance
The CUBE Street takes it styling from the rest of Roland’s current CUBE line. With a thick metal grill, durable construction, and heavy-duty corner guards, it’s ready for the rigors of gigging. You even have a choice of colors—either basic black or eye-catching red. Two high-performance 6.5″ neodymium speakers provide true stereo sound, while the slanted cabinet design tilts the speakers slightly upward for maximum sound projection. As for battery life, the amp runs for approximately 15 hours on six alkaline AA cells; for an alternative, an AC power supply is also provided. In physical size, the CUBE Street is quite compact and very easy to transport, weighing in at just 11 and ½ pounds including batteries. But don’t let its diminutive size fool you—this amp is loud and proud, with a rich, full sound that belies its small footprint.
In Deep
On its top panel, the CUBE Street loads an astounding amount of features into a small space, including dual channels and independent pro-quality effects. As its name suggests, the MIC/LINE CHANNEL works with either a mic or a line level source, such as a keyboard, drum machine, effects processor, etc. Its combo input jack accepts either an XLR connector or a ¼-inch plug, and a gain switch optimizes the level for the connected input source. A volume control and two-band EQ are provided, as well as a reverb/delay effect that’s dedicated to the channel. The reverb/delay is adjusted with an easy-to-use one-knob control that allows you to dial in both the effect type and depth at once.
The onboard tuner in the GUITAR/INSTRUMENT CHANNEL makes it easy to check your instrument’s tuning; two different modes are provided (Manual and Chromatic) for tuning a guitar or any other instrument. For effects processing, this channel provides two different effects groups. There’s a dedicated reverb/delay with a single-knob control—independent of the reverb/delay in the MIC/LINE CHANNEL—and the EFX knob allows you to easily dial in Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, or Tremolo effects.
The CUBE Street also provides a stereo auxiliary input on an 1/8-inch mini jack. This lets you connect a stereo sound source such as a CD or MP3 player, so you can learn songs or play along with backing tracks. The STEREO PHONES jack is intended primarily for headphones, but you can alternately use it as a direct output for recording. (Whenever a plug is connected to the STEREO PHONES jack, the CUBE Street’s speakers are muted.) Finally, up to four optional footswitches can be connected to rear panel jacks. These allow you to turn the reverb/delay and EFX on and off in the GUITAR/INSTRUMENT CHANNEL, and to mute the MIC/LINE CHANNEL and turn its reverb/delay on and off.
For the musician on the go, the CUBE Street is hard to beat. Its small size and light weight make transportation easy, and its battery-powered operation truly lets you take your music anywhere. With its extensive feature set, the applications are limited only to your imagination; you can use the CUBE Street as a rehearsal amp, a recording amp, a personal monitor amp, or a mini PA for street busking or playing a coffee house. Best of all, this flexibility comes at a price that won’t strain your budget. So, pop down to your Roland dealer and take a listen to a CUBE Street—you won’t want to go home without one!
