Nashville California Open Back 5 String Banjo

South Coast Music is proud to offer the Nashville California Open Back Banjo. The California is a superb banjo and perfect for clawhammer and old-time music.

The Nashville California features quality all-Maple construction and a rolled brass tone ring. Widely considered the standard for old-time players, the rolled brass tone ring gives the California a clear and focused tone, elevating it above instruments without.

Clawhammer or old-time music has the player alternating between strumming individual notes and chords. More than a one-trick pony however, the versatile Nashville California banjo is suitable for all types of playing styles and is a great instrument for rhythmic accompaniment in an ensemble situation.

This banjo features a Remo Head, geared tuners and a Grover Acousticraft bridge. This Grover Acousticraft 5 string banjo bridge is made in the USA from seasoned Maple with an Ebony insert and individual Ivoroid blocks. The Grover Acousticraft is a revelation and provides clearer note separation and enhanced acoustic balance between the higher and lower strings.

The California also has dual coordinator rods. The two way coordinators rods make adjusting the bow angle and the height of the strings easier, removing buzzing from too low an action, and ultimately making the banjo easier to play. One rod attaches to the truss rod and the other to the rim making adjusting your string action and neck bow angle easier.

The Nashville California open back banjo offers excellent value for money & quality craftsmanship.

What really separates this banjo from others though is our Pro-SCM setup. We have tuned the head, adjusted the coordinator rods and given special attention to the fingerboard. The fret ends have been hand rolled, any high frets dressed and crowned and the frets then polished.
This work is time -consuming and could cost more than $250 as a paid job. It is included!

While Open-Back Banjos are normally the reserve of Frailing, Clawhammer and Old-Style Music, some players prefer the big open sound of the Open-Back style and that makes the Nashville California ideal for whatever type of music takes your fancy, including Bluegrass! The choice is all yours.
