The Martin Backpacker is the original Travel Guitar. Weighing in at only 2.5lbs, the Martin Backpacker is exceedingly light and extremely portable but don’t let its size fool you. The Backpacker may be tiny but the sound it makes is certainly not. It’s braced solid mahogany neck, back and sides offer a sound beyond comparison to other travel guitars.
Built to withstand the rigors of the road, the Backpacker is ready to be your companion when you go camping, hiking, off-road traveling, touring and of course – backpacking! If you’re packing for that road trip but still want to bring your guitar for some fireside tunes, the Backpacker’s distinctive shape and padded case allow it to be stored virtually anywhere. It’s the perfect party guitar…take it with you wherever and whenever you go – but don’t go without a PRO-SCM setup!
the PRO-SCM SETUP…
Martin build great guitars – that’s true but it’s also true that it is impossible to build and setup a guitar like the Backpacker at it’s recommended retail price to the same standards as a legendary Martin D28 (especially in the USA). While a Backpacker will never be a D28, some attention from our inhouse Luthiers with what we call a PRO-SCM setup can transform the Backpacker into a sweet playing guitar – from a “good” guitar to a “great” guitar!
The frets will be dressed, the fret ends hand rolled and finally the frets hand polished resulting in a touch and feel that is sweet and smooth – your strings will slide rather than grind across the frets. We will then treat the fret board to give it a luxurious look and feel. The nut slots and saddle height are then adjusted to ensure that minumum effort is required to extract maximum playability! We will even check that the tuners have been properly fitted and adjusted.
A PRO-SCM setup? Why bother?
Our workshop is always booked out weeks in advance – often setting up guitars purchased elsewhere. Often musicians end up paying a lot of hard earned money to make their new instruments playable.
A PRO-SCM setup takes care of that – we can even discuss your particular requirements before proceeding.
