Kala KA-GTR Tenor Guitar Solid Spruce Top Pau Ferro Back and Sides Gig Bag
For the ukulele enthusiast with an interest in acoustic guitar, and vice versa, the Kala Solid Spruce Tenor Guitar is the perfect place to start.
Introduced in the 1920s as a way to provide unique chord voicings to complement more common instruments such as standard guitars, the tenor guitar offers the same C, G, D, A fifths tuning that you’d find on a viola, mandola, or tenor banjo. This tuning allows the Kala Tenor Guitar to both to fill out rhythm parts and to take the lead when required. The Tenor Guitar had its first renaissance in the 1960’s with folk artists such as the Kingston Trio and today the tenor guitar is experiencing a renewed resurgence in popularity among musicians that are seeking a fresh sound to add to their performances and arrangements. As a result, there has been the emergence of a grassroots movement of tenor guitar enthusiasts across a wide range of musical styles and genres.
The Kala Tenor Guitar is more versatile than its traditional siblings. Shorter and lighter than traditional tenor guitars, the Kala Tenor Guitar is also suitable for children and players with smaller hands and fingers. It is equally adept at fingerpicking or strumming duties.
The build quality is excellent and on par with instruments costing much more. The Solid Spruce top and Pau Ferro back and sides offer a boldly contrasting aesthetic and a crisp, rich tone. The standard tuning is CGDA, but it holds alternate tunings and open tunings just as well. Strings are D’Addario EJ66 80/20 Bronze Wound and Nickel plated Steel project with a beautiful, chimey resonance.
Your Kala Tenor Guitar comes supplied with a fitted Gig Bag.
The Tenor Guitar as an instrument has an eclectic and storied past as a specialty 4-string guitar in the bluegrass and folk genres. Popular contemporary players like Warren Ellis and Neko Case have helped to keep this instrument in the public eye.
