iCON SX-5A ACTIVE STUDIO REFERENCE MONITORS
The iCON SX-5A are a two-way active studio reference monitor designed for nearfield monitoring situations.
• Two-way active nearfield reference monitors
• 5.5-inch copolymer butyl surround woofer provides tight and controlled low frequency response
• 1-inch silk dome tweeter with neodymium magnet
• Heat sink and ferrofluid cooling delivers smooth and sweet high frequency response
• Bi-Amp power module for LF and HF drivers HF: 30W / LF: 60W
Each cabinet features a ported and tuned enclosure providing extremely accurate monitoring for recording studio, post-production and multi-media applications.
Compact and powerful with very precise sound reproduction, the SX-5A cabinets are constructed from high density MDF offering excellent rigidity.
High frequency performance is taken care of with a 1” inch wide dispersion, silk dome tweeter. This device features ferro-fluid cooling and a neodymium providing smooth and accurate high frequency response. The concept is that the viscous fluid containing microscopic metal parts, magnetically held in the tweeter voice coil gap, damps resonances as well as cools the voice coil – thus improving sound quality and prevent overheating (and breaking down) of the voice coil.
The low frequencies are aptly handled by a 5.5” woofer. Featuring a PPB cone with a copolymer butyl surround, aluminium short-circuiting ring and rigid cast aluminium basket, performance is a tight and controlled low frequency response.
The iCON SX-5A cabinets also feature a Bi-Amp power module for the low and high frequency drivers with 30 watts RMS for the HF and 60 watts RMS for the LF.
The multi-pole Active crossover offers a smooth and natural linear response.
Each cab has a balanced XLR input as well as an unbalanced RCA input for connection to -10 dBV or +4dB signal sources and are magnetically shielded for multi-media applications.
.
iCON have also included their Vasorb TM” monitor rubber feet to ensure isolation from speaker stands or mounting surfaces.

Positioning the SX series active studio reference monitor system
Near field monitoring has become choice of many engineers in large and small studios because it minimises the effect of room acoustics. By positioning the reference monitors in the near field (close to the listener), you can greatly reduce the effects of room acoustics. When positioning the monitors, we recommend that you set up what is commonly referred to as the “mixing triangle”. In this ideal configuration, the space between the left and right monitor is equal to the distance from the listener to each monitor, forming an equilateral triangle. Your position at the head of this “triangle” is what is known as the “sweet spot”.
