Hagstrom began building guitars way back in 1958. Continually honing their craft, Hagstrom guitars began to appear in the hands of some very prominent artists that included Elvis Presley and Joe Walsh. Unfortunately it was to be a rocky mountain way for Hagstrom as they and many other brands succumbed to the pressure of much cheaper far eastern imports and in 1981, Hagstrom ceased production. Like a Phoenix though, Hagstrom reintroduced their Electric Guitar line in 2007 and have never looked back.
Hagstrom’s new found success has been built squarely on the back of their best known originals such as the Swede, Super-Swede, Viking and more. Musicians the world over are revelling in Hagstrom’s ample retro-flavoured individuality and a new generation of players are now calling a Hagstrom guitar or bass their own.

Back in the seventies, the original Swede was Hagstrom’s major play for a share of Les Paul sales, becoming one of the brand’s best-known models. Unsurprisingly, this reissue maintains the same styling and many other features besides. While the single cut body with its carved top may echo the iconic Les Paul, Fender Stratocaster players who can’t quite come to terms with the Gibson Les Paul’s 24 3/4″ scale will find themselves in familiar territory with the Hagstrom Super Swede’s 25.5″ scale length, in fact we’re sure that they’ll love it!
Hagstrom’s proprietry Resinator fretboard and H-Expander truss rod add up to an incredible playing surface and sweet action. Resinator™ wood is a wood composite material that is both more uniform in density and more stable than any standard wood product. These characteristics eliminate dead spots or “wolf tones” sometimes associated with conventional wood fingerboards.
Resinator™ wood has an articulate sound similar to high quality ebony but without any of the problems associated with ebony. Attributes of this amazing material include stable and clear tones along with higher overtones and harmonics which uniquely detail each note. Like the H-Expander™ truss rod, Resinator™ wood is a major contributor to the distinctive “Hagstrom tone”.
As with every Hagstrom sold by southcoastmusic – and we have sold a few – this guitar is setup to the highest level with frets dressed, polished and the fret ends hand rolled. Intonation is rarely an issue with Hagstrom but just to be sure, we check and adjust that too.
The Tremar tailpiece revives the name of an early Hagstrom vibrato but is now applied to an all-new and improved interpretation of Bigsby’s classic design. The Hagstrom Tremar Vibrato is a chrome laden, fine tuned piece of art with top notch vibrato performance.
This stunningly light and responsive vintage styled, top mount vibrato system, delivers impeccable tuning stability without eating away at sustain or compromising your overall tone.
