The Viola Bass is a short scale instrument. Scale length refers to the distance between the bridge and the nut, not the length of the neck and makes a big difference to how an instrument plays and feels. The 30.5″ short scale Maple neck offers significant benefits.
The first is the smaller physical size and the shorter neck of the Epiphone Viola bass means less distance between frets. This makes the Viola an excellent choice for players with smaller hands – regardless of age.
It also makes a great crossover instrument for guitar players wanting to play bass. This short-scale bass delivers a darker tone but with a more focused low-end thump.
Thanks to its short scale length, long stretches between notes are easier as are quick, note-filled bass lines. Playing full chords sounds incredible and string bends won’t cripple your fingers.
