EPIPHONE THUNDERBIRD IV CLASSIC VINTAGE SUNBURST
The Thunderbird Bass, built in the legendary Kalamazoo factory and released in 1963, was for a time the only bass available from Gibson or Epiphone. But really, what else could you need? The Thunderbird’s unique “reversed” zig-zag body design and equally distinct headstock was the brainchild of legendary automotive designer and visionary Ray Dietrich who was enlisted by the Kalamazoo factory to bolster the electric guitar line and help solidify the factory’s eminent rank among solidbody electric guitar manufacturers.
The Thunderbird bass was quickly embraced by rock and rollers in the States, the UK, and Europe and has for more than five decades powered artists as varied as Nikki Sixx, The Who, Kings of Leon, Cheap Trick, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Steely Dan and The Silversun Pickups. Today, the T-Bird is still the ultimate rock and roll low-end machine.
The look and sound of the Thunderbird IV is just as cutting edge today as when it was first released and the Thunderbird Classic-IV offers Epiphone’s first-class quality without the hassles of owning (or hiding) a vintage instrument.
The Epiphone Thunderbird IV pickup configuration is unique and features what are essentially middle and bridge position humbucking pickups. As well as eliminating annoying 50Hz earth hum, with these humbuckers you can dial in everything from growling raunch to funky punch. There are individual volume controls for each pickup along with a single Global tone control for fine-tweaking.
